Opinion| Steven Ahle| The DOJ has announced that there are charging 18 of the Portland ‘protsters’ with federal crimes.  Federal prosecutions generally have a much higher conviction rate, and those convicted with Prison time tend to serve more of their sentence.

Much higher when you consider many local municipalities have been dropping all charges against rioters.

All the charges stem from the actions of the rioters against the federal courthouse and federal agents.

The federal officers stationed at the courthouse include agents from the Federal Protective Service, Homeland Security Investigations, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The rioters attempted to barricade the officers inside the courthouse and then trying to set it on fire, in an apparent attempt to burn the feds alive.

The arrests include:

July 20-21

Jennifer Kristiansen, 37, is charged with assaulting a federal officer.

Zachary Duffly, 45, is charged with creating a disturbance.

Wyatt Ash-Milby, 18, is charged with trespassing on federal property.

Caleb Ehlers, 23, and Paul Furst, 22, are charged with failing to comply with a lawful order.

July 21-22

Jerusalem Callahan, 24, is charged with willfully damaging government property.

Joseph Ybarra, 21, is charged with arson.

Marnie Sager, 27, and Ella Miller, 26, are charged failing to comply with a lawful order.

Taylor Lemons, 31; Giovanni Bondurant, 19; and Gabriel Houston, 22, are charged with assaulting federal officers.

July 22-23

Joseph Lagalo, 37; Baily Dreibelbis, 22; Nicholas Kloiber, 26; David Hazan, 24; Hailey Holden, 30; and Cameron Knuetson, age unknown, are charged with failing to comply with a lawful order.

All eighteen suspects have already had their first hearing in federal court and have been released pending trial.

A Department of Homeland Security official wrote:

“Around midnight rioters attempted to set the courthouse on fire, as they have done numerous times before. They also threw smoke bombs into the flames causing the interior of the courthouse to fill with smoke. In response, a team of federal officers was forced to leave the building, taking one individual into custody. When they did, a rioter threw a bag filled with hard objects at officers.”

On Wednesday, Mayor Ted Wheeler marched with antifa and BLM and ironically, they booed the man who has enabled them to loot, rob and burn without having to worry about being arrested. A prophet is without honor in his own country
