OPINION| Lawrence David| Roger Stone was found guilty of lying to Congress, at least partially due to the testimony of Steve Bannon. Bannon had served as CEO of the Trump campaign during a key period of 2016.
(Washington) President Donald Trump’s campaign saw Roger Stone as an informal channel to WikiLeaks during the 2016 presidential race, when the anti-secrecy group published troves of damaging emails about rival Hillary Clinton and the Democratic National Committee, this according to Steve Bannon.
Bannon, the Trump campaign’s chief executive at the time, testified Friday that he perceived Stone to be the “access point” to WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange.
The jury was led to believe that Bannon would have known everything about Stone’s involvement in something so important to the campaign as WikiLeaks’ source.
But read that again… Bannon “perceived Stone to be the “access point” to WikiLeaks and its founder, Julian Assange.”
Stone is being sent to prison for something a witness perceived? (Yes, there was additional evidence presented, but that’s not the focus of this piece.)
Perhaps Bannon did perceive Stone was in contact with Julian Assange, but his testimony, such as it was, didn’t rise to the level necessary to gain a conviction – beyond a reasonable doubt.
That didn’t matter to a jury whose foreperson was dead set on convicting Stone to serve her personal bias.
Bannon’s testimony in the Roger Stone trial came nearly two years later in November 2019.
Adam Schiff (D-CA) had this testimony all that time and blocked its release… allowing an apparently, according to Bannon’s prior testimony, innocent man to be prosecuted.
It wasn’t until President Trump was finally able to appoint an honest man to Director of National Intelligence, Richard “Ric” Grenell, that Steve Bannon’s testimony to the HPSCI became known.
Roger has lost everthing for refusing to fabricate lies to take down his long time friend, President Trump. If you are able, please help out our fellow patriot in his time of need by donating to help pay his enormous legal bills here: Stone Defense Fund.
