Kirsters Baish’s Opinion – ICYMI 7.19  | It has been reported that the daughter of disgraced former FBI Director James Comey, Maurene Comey, is on the line up to become one of the prosecutors in the infamous Jeffrey Epstein child sex trafficking case.

A source confirmed Comey’s involvement on Sunday with leftist news network CNN.

According to the New York Post, “Comey has been serving as an assistant US attorney in the Southern District of New York since 2015. Her father, who was ousted from the FBI two years ago by President Trump, held the same position between 1987 and 1993. Comey has worked on a number of cases involving obstruction of justice, racketeering and embezzlement. Legal experts told Law&Crime that Epstein — who is charged in a massive new underage sex trafficking case — could also face money laundering, public corruption and other tax-related crimes on account of the SDNY’s Public Corruption Unit reportedly being involved in the case.”

“Who knows?” questioned trial analyst Gene Rossi, continuing, “The sky’s the limit.”

Charges were brought against Epstein, a close Clinton family friend, by US prosecutors in Manhattan. The charges included crimes that took place between 2002 and 2005 in New York as well as Palm Beach, Florida.

According to BizPac Review, “The new case against Epstein, who previously was only sentenced to 13 months in prison more than a decade ago,  will be handled by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York along with its public corruption unit and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.”

Shimon Prokupecz tweeted, “Maurene Comey, the daughter of former FBI director James Comey, is one of the prosecutors, according to a source with knowledge of the case.”

In 2017, Comey served with a team of New York prosecutors in a case against the former treasurer of the Mahopac Volunteer Fire Department who pleaded guilty to wire fraud, obstruction of justice, false statements and tax in embezzling nearly $6 million of fire department funds.

Comey was part of the SDNY’s White Plains office that charged a former union president with embezzlement of union funds, mail fraud, and making false statements to the Department of Labor in 2016. Earlier this year, she was also one of the prosecutors in a case of racketeering conspiracy involving a gang member.
