Opinion| Mark Sidney| By now many of you have seen this clip of Chris ‘Fredo’ Cuomo, angrily asking where it says that protests need to be peaceful:
‘… and please, show me where it says that protests are supposed to be polite, and peaceful!’ -Chris Cuomo
It should come as no surprise to anyone who has watched this man’s show, that Cuomo seems unaware of the language included in the 1st Amendment to the United States Constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.’
It should also come as no surprise that there are violent riots in the streets across the nation, as the media does all that they can to hype up every case of cop on black suspect violence and all but encourage, and at the very least, try to justify the reprehensible acts of violence and arson that have occurred across the nation.
I want to be very clear here that, of course, we respect the people’s right to protest, to march, to organize, to do just about anything that is peaceful and not destructive of life or property. However, violence is never acceptable.
While the left wing media tries to justify the violence coming from the radical left, which only emboldens and in my view, and increases the intensity and further radicalizes, rather then deescalates the unrest, Fox News is reporting:
‘A police officer who was shot in the head during a Las Vegas Strip protest of the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis is paralyzed from the neck down, on a ventilator and unable to speak, his family said in a statement released by police.
Officer Shay Mikalonis, 29, was shot June 1 during protests over the death of Floyd at the hands of police. The family statement released on twitter by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Saturday said he is expected to stay on the ventilator. He has been tentatively accepted at a spine rehabilitation center.
The family thanked doctors, nurses and staff at University Medical Center in Las Vegas for their care and the community for support and fundraising.’
‘Prosecutors have charged a 20-year-old man with deliberately shooting Mikalonis during the protest, one of hundreds being held across the nation. A judge who reviewed evidence at June 5 court hearing said that police video shows Edgar Samaniego “walking by, taking out a gun and firing … at officers.”’
We have decided not to publish the video showing the shooting out of respect for the family of the victim.
