Carmine Sabia| Opinion|ICYMI 6/26/20| Former Vice President Joe Biden, the likely Democratic presidential nominee, and the Democrats in Congress have thumbed their noses at the Constitution.
On Friday the House of Representatives, led by Democrat California Rep. Nancy Pelosi, is expected to pass H.R. 51, a bill that would give Washington, D.C. statehood.
Biden, in a Twitter message on Thursday, voiced his support for the move saying “DC should be a state. Pass it on.”

Democrat politicians claim that the district is being oppressed and has taxation without representation, but the facts are not in their favor.
The framers of the Constitution expressly designated that the United States capital should not be a state and the only way to change that would be a Constitutional Amendment, not a bill.
Article 1, Section 8, Clause 17 of the Constitution says “To exercise exclusive Legislation in all Cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten Miles square) as may, by Cession of particular States, and the Acceptance of Congress, become the Seat of Government of the United States.”
In Federalist 43 James Madison explained the reasoning behind the provision as he called the arrangement an “indispensable necessity.”
“The indispensable necessity of complete authority at the seat of government, carries its own evidence with it,” he said.
“Without it, not only the public authority might be insulted and its proceedings interrupted with impunity; but a dependence of the members of the general government on the State comprehending the seat of the government, for protection in the exercise of their duty, might bring on the national councils an imputation of awe or influence, equally dishonorable to the government and dissatisfactory to the other members of the Confederacy,” he said.
In layman’s terms that Founders were concerned that if the capital of the United States were a state that leaders would be beholden to it.
Madison was concerned that members of Congress from a state that was the capital would be able to bully their way to get whatever they wanted.
President Donald Trump said last month that Republicans in Congress would have to be “stupid” to allow D.C. to become a state.
“DC will never be a state,” the president said to The New York Post. “You mean District of Columbia, a state? Why? So we can have two more Democratic — Democrat senators and five more congressmen? No thank you. That’ll never happen.”
“They want to do that so they pick up two automatic Democrat — you know it’s 100 percent Democrat, basically — so why would the Republicans ever do that? That’ll never happen unless we have some very, very stupid Republicans around that I don’t think you do. You understand that, right?” he said.
“Why don’t you just take two senators and put them in there? No, it’s not gonna happen. And how many House seats is it? Like four, three or four? Whatever it is. You’d have three or four more congressmen and two more senators, every single day of every single year. And it would never change. No, the Republicans would never do that,” he said.
And he is correct. Does anyone think that is DC was majority Republican voters that Biden and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would want to make it a state?
What Democrats want is to find a way, be it via mass immigration or making DC a state, to get the United States to be a one-party nation.
