Opinion| Guests on Sunday’s edition of MSNBC’s AM Joy agreed among themselves that it’s time to start calling supporters of President Donald Trump “racist.”
“I think that this is something that his supporters — and we have to start calling his supporters racists as well. That MAGA hat — that MAGA symbol has come to represent something. it is the new Nazi symbol — it is the new hood, the Klan hood.”
No, this wasn’t a skit from Saturday Night Live, though it would have been more appropriate as that rather than as a serious political discussion.
It’s not just Joy Reid either. It’s now the selected narrative for Dems and their media co-conspirators, in response to a president who has stymied them at every juncture.
And they’re not reprising Hillary’s boneheaded, campaign-killing 20-second “basket of deplorables” screed that removed all doubt about Madame Clinton’s elitism. Though that’s effectively what Reid and her condescending, smirking guests accomplished.
Don’t be deceived. For Democrats, this is no longer about winning. Democrats no longer believe beating Donald Trump in 2020 is possible.
They’ve seen the most significant findings from this recent NBC poll and have descended into deep depression as they come to terms with the data that found a wide majority of Americans, in key states, think race relations are improving:
What to do now? Reid and her comrades can’t very well turn to the economy to damage PresidentTrump.
Seventy-two percent of respondents view the national economy as good or very good. Those numbers become even more favorable (75%) when respondents are asked about their home state’s economy.
Democrat narrative directors realize that blacks and Hispanics have enjoyed a disproportionately large percentage of the benefits of Trump’s economic agenda but, hey, what else is left in their quiver?
Six million new jobs have been created since Donald Trump took office. Half of those new jobs have gone to minorities even though they comprise only 38% of the population.
Increasingly, blacks are recognizing how President Trump is transforming their communities and their allegiances are shifting.

Trump won barely 8 percent of the black vote in 2016. Yet today the NAACP’s own polls show his approval rating among African-Americans standing almost three times as high, at 21 percent.
Democrats see even worse news in the issues that will define the 2020 election.
The 2020 debate will be framed around immigration, jobs and the economy, and healthcare.
All that’s left for Dems is to circle the wagons and double down on the previous three years of fear, division, even hatred against those riding the Trump Train to a better life.
