Opinion| Vocally anti-Trump Republican Justin Amash resigned from his position on the Freedom Caucus on Monday evening.
The Gateway Pundit explains that the news came “after weeks of the Michigan Republican trashing the US president and calling for his impeachment.”
Amash is the only vocal Republican to come forward and call for the removal of President Trump over the ridiculous Mueller investigation.
Rep. Justin Amash tells me he stepped down from the House Freedom Caucus and the HFC board tonight.
“I have the highest regard for them, and they’re my close friends,” Amash said. “I didn’t want to be a further distraction for the group.”

Republican Representative Jim Jordan told Fox News’ Laura Ingraham, “Well, we had a nice long meeting with Justin tonight, the board of the Freedom Caucus. The chairman and Mr. Amash will be talking about that. We disagree with Justin’s assessment of this entire investigation, the impeachment. We strongly disagree with him. Justin is our friend and Mark, of course, is our chairman, and those two will be talking about this tomorrow.”
Fox News reports:
Michigan Republican Rep. Justin Amash announced Monday evening he is leaving the influential conservative House Freedom Caucus, just weeks after he attracted the ire of his colleagues by arguing in Twitter posts that President Trump had committed impeachable offenses, Fox News has learned.
Amash, speaking at a Freedom Caucus board meeting, insisted his departure was voluntary. Amash said he did not want to continue to be a “further distraction” for the caucus, which is chaired by North Carolina GOP Rep. Mark Meadows.
Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, a member of the Freedom Caucus, told Fox News’ “Ingraham Angle” Monday evening that Meadows and Amash mutually came to the decision after several conversations.
Jordan said the Republican members of the group still consider Amash a friend, but that their disagreements were “sharp” and significant.
Amash’s departure was first reported by CNN.
President Trump tweeted, “Never a fan of @justinamash, a total lightweight who opposes me and some of our great Republican ideas and policies just for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy. If he actually read the biased Mueller Report, ‘composed’ by 18 Angry Dems who hated Trump, he would see that it was nevertheless strong on NO COLLUSION and, ultimately, NO OBSTRUCTION…Anyway, how do you Obstruct when there is no crime and, in fact, the crimes were committed by the other side? Justin is a loser who sadly plays right into our opponents hands!”
