Kirsters Baish| The daughter of late Arizona Senator John McCain/co-host of ABC’s “The View,” Meghan McCain, claimed on Friday that if House Democrats want to be successful in impeaching President Donald Trump, they must take a “kill shot.”
“I will say if you take this kill shot, Democrats, you better not miss. You better hit his jugular. If there is even a finger still moving at the end of it, you’re going to ruin your chances in 2020. But you better do this well if you’re going to do it,” McCain said on Friday.
Co-host Whoopi Goldberg made sure to note that McCain was not pushing for actual harm to President Trump.
“I’m a hunter and shooter, I’m sorry if that metaphor is wrong. I talk like a redneck, so sorry. But I will say you have to successfully do this if you’re going to impeach him. You have to impeach him. It can’t just be proceedings that don’t end up successful,” McCain stated.
“If you’re going to swing, you have to hit the ball,” co-host Joy Behar said.
McCain then thanked her co-host for thinking of a better metaphor for the situation.
The Washington Examiner reports:
The impeachment conversation on the show occurred in response to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi’s comments on impeachment to late night host Jimmy Kimmel.
“I think the president wants us to impeach him,” the California Democrat said.
“The silver lining for him is, then he believes that he would be exonerated by the United States Senate. And there’s a school of thought that says, ‘If the Senate acquits you, why bring up charges against him in the private sector when he’s no longer president?’ So when we go through with our case, it’s got to be ironclad,” she said.
Trump responded Thursday to calls among House Democrats to impeach him, calling it a “ dirty, filthy, disgusting word.”
“It’s high crimes and misdemeanor. There was no high crime and there was no misdemeanor. So how do you impeach based on that?” the president added.
