Opinion| Lawrence David| Wow! Just wow. Finally a fee increase that Democrats are against.
The Trump administration announced yesterday that it was preparing to increase fees on immigrants filing applications within the interior of the United States.
U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has moved to adjust fees in a move designed to cover operational costs.
Without the fee increases, USCIS would be underfunded by $1.3 billion next year and taxpayers would be burdened with the costs in addition to the lost jobs, crime, and costs of government services they’re already picking up for potential the unwanted interlopers.
USCIS Acting Director Ken Cuccinelli explained:
“USCIS is required to examine incoming and outgoing expenditures, just like a business, and make adjustments based on that analysis. This proposed adjustment in fees would ensure more applicants cover the true cost of their applications and minimizes subsidies from an already over-extended system.
“Furthermore, the adjudication of immigration applications and petitions requires in-depth screening, incurring costs that must be covered by the agency, and this proposal accounts for our operational needs and better aligns our fee schedule with the costs of processing each request.”
President Trump is doing everything he can to place the assessment of taxes and fees where they rightly belong in order to lessen the burden on taxpayers caused by government mandated redistribution of their earnings.
Democrats are fighting him at every juncture. There should be a slam dunk bi-partisan agreement for this, but not for the party that wants to force you to pay for the healthcare of every interloper who enters our country illegally.
According to Fox News “among the most controversial fees would be a $50 fee on affirmative asylum applications. These are asylum claims made from within the U.S., and therefore would not apply to people arriving across the U.S.-Mexico border or other ports of entry.”
Fifty dollars? That’s it? I just paid $83.50 to renew the registration… on my car for the next year. I’m pretty sure my car doesn’t require “in-depth screening,” either.
Rep. Ilhan Omar, (D-MN) reacted predictably with your money:
People seeking asylum have to deal with enough challenges already. Tacking a fee on to their troubles would be cruel.
I will fight against this proposed policy and every single one that further harms people who are fleeing violence, abuse, and poverty. https://t.co/eJNP73labc

“People seeking asylum have to deal with enough challenges already.”
Maybe so, but American taxpayers have challenges of there own paying bills and keeping his/her family fed.
