Opinion – Elder Patriot – On Friday, Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey posted a since-deleted tweet that said;
“Fight for Freedom. Stand with Hong Kong.”
And then all hell rained down on him. It should stand as a wake-up call to everyone.
Remember, when Hong Kong was turned over to China, the Chinese promised to keep hands off and allow a system separate system of governance. Only fools, or corrupt decision-makers in bed with the ChiComs, would trust China to uphold its end of the bargain.
Now those corporate decision-makers are groveling before ChiCom aggression in Hong Kong because one of their members had the nerve to tweet his support for freedom and they didn’t have the conscience or the never to defend freedom, themselves.
(NY Post) The Chinese Basketball Association fired back that it expressed “strong opposition” to Morey’s “improper remarks regarding Hong Kong.”
“We want to express our indignation and strong condemnation,” said a statement posted on the Twitter-like Weibo platform. “We have already stopped our cooperation with the Houston Rockets, and continue to urge them to give a clear answer on this matter.”
It’s All About The Benjamins
For the Communist Chinese, Morey’s insolence is intolerable. For the NBA, that has a $1.5 billion streaming deal with China, anything that threatens that income stream is equally intolerable.
Brooklyn Nets owner Joe Tsai, co-founder of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba, said the damage from Houston Rockets GM Daryl Morey’s tweet showing support for pro-democracy demonstrators in Hong Kong “will take a long time to repair.”
No mention of the damage those jack-booted ChiComs are doing to those Freedom Fighters who dare to challenge the autocratic dictatorship.
The reaction of the NBA, in rejecting Morey’s sentiments, has exposed the pro-China corporate elites willingness to support totalitarian rule so long as the Chinese deliver the money.
The Hong Kong protests have become increasingly violent with the ChiComs leaving little doubt that they’re prepared to stage another Tiananmen Square slaughter once they conclude that’s what it takes to put down the Hong Kong Freedom Movement.
Remember, these are some of the same American companies that have denounced the Freedom Movement here at home based on the SJW complaints of Marxist front groups.
China detains more than one million people in re-education camps and an estimated 3 million Muslims in what U.S. officials have described as concentration camps. Not a word about that from the ‘justice-minded’ corporatists.
The existential threat to America is China and those who are financially beholden to China, and Trump gets it!
