Opinion, Speculation and Analysis By II Staff | Former Vice President, and current Democratic frontrunner (depending on who you ask) Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, allegedly has a very long and messy story, and with his Father in the spotlight again, it’s all coming back out into the public eye.
Recall back to 2014 when the Wall Street Journal reported that Hunter Biden had been let go from the Navy for using cocaine? We do, so did the WSJ.
It wasn’t long before Biden made it onto the Board of the biggest oil and gas corporation in the Ukraine, raking in a cool $50,000 per month. (Note: This figure should not be regarded as 100% factual, we have seen reports ranging from 50k-160k a month)
Via Business Insider:
-In April 2014, Biden’s son Hunter joined the board of Burisma Holdings. Hunter served on the board until early 2019.
-At the time, a news release from the company said Hunter would be “in charge of the Holdings’ legal unit and will provide support for the Company among international organizations.”
-Hunter told the New York Times that the news release was not accurate and he was never in charge of the company’s legal affairs.
-He joined the company about a month after Russia annexed Crimea, a cataclysmic moment that continues to put the US at odds with Russia and is linked to ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine.
-During his time with Burisma, Hunter reportedly received compensation up to $50,000 a month.
-From the start, Hunter’s role at Burisma was criticized by ethics watchdogs as a conflict of interest for his father, who was still vice president at the time and heavily focused on pressuring Ukraine to do a better job rooting out corruption. But some ethics watchdogs at the time also said that unless there was clear evidence Hunter got the job to influence US foreign policy then there was no cause for concern.
-His hiring by Burisma was seen as an attempt by the company to bolster its image and the perception it had strong ties to the US as the world vilified Russia for its annexation of Crimea, the Times reported.
-Yoshiko M. Herrera, a professor of political science at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and an an expert on Russia and Eurasia, told The Washington Post: “I think there is a conflict of interest even if it doesn’t break any laws. It’s a big deal. It’s the vice president, who is the point person of the Obama administration’s policy on Ukraine, and his son is suddenly hired to be a director on the board of Ukraine’s largest private gas producer.”
-With that said, Hunter has never been accused of wrongdoing regarding his work with Burisma.
-Hunter also said he only had one brief conversation with his father about Burisma which did not go into substantive details about the deal. Joe Biden has said he learned about his son’s role at the company from news reports.

Now a former Ukrainian Prime Minister is saying that the country must probe Hunter Biden in order to figure out whether his spot on the gas company’s board was part of a bigger corruption story. To be fair, no one has been convicted of anything yet, so this is all speculation and should be regarded as such.
“It should be investigated so that the ‘i’s can be dotted and the ‘t’s crossed,” Mykola Azarov explained to Reuters on Saturday, going on to say, “If he [Hunter Biden] was simply on the books and getting money, then that could be seen as a violation of the law.”
According to Fox News, “Azarov, a former Prime Minister under Ukraine’s pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych, did not specify to which laws he was referring. President Trump and his personal attorney Rudy Giuliani have called on current Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate the Biden family dealings with Ukrainian firm Burisma Holdings Ltd. Burisma reportedly paid Hunter Biden up to $50,000 to sit on its board at the same time as his father was leading the Obama administration’s diplomatic dealings with Kyiv, and a second private equity firm founded by the younger Biden received $3.4 million from the same company. Trump and Giuliani have alleged that when Ukrainian prosecutors tried to investigate Burisma Holdings for corruption, then-Vice President Biden pressured the government to fire the head prosecutor.”
It sure looks to me like Biden is being thrown under the bus, not only by Trump, but, call me crazy but I smell HRC on this one too. If she can take down Trump and Biden with one stroke, it would open the door for her to step into the race and be the instant front runner.
If Trump ends up going down, something I do not see happening, but for arguments sake, IF Trump is out of the picture for 2020 the Republicans will get SLAUGHTERED in the Presidential Election IMHO. What the Republican establishment fails to realize, or worse yet, does not care about, is that people are not voting Republican, they are voting for Trump. Without Trump there is no Republican party.
Again, this is just my opinion, but I can tell you right now, if the Republican party tosses Trump under the bus, I am done with them. It would be time to start a new party and let those who sold their souls and our children’s future down the river find new jobs, outside of politics.
