Democrats & Jews Finally Turn On Radical Dem Rep After Antisemitic Tweets

Opinion| Democratic Minnesota Representative Ilhan Omar is proving to be almost as bad for the Democratic Party as self-proclaimed Democratic Socialist Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

This week, she made herself look like an anti-semitic fool when she accused a pro-Israel group of paying for influence over Congress. She went on to throw an offensive stereotype into the mix.

Breitbart News explains that “Omar began by re-tweeting Glenn Greenwald, co-founder of the Intercept, who has long been critical of Israel.  Greenwald had criticized House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (D-CA) for his comments to Breitbart News Saturday and other outlets, accusing Democrats of double standards in their reluctance to punish Omar and other Democrats for antisemitic rhetoric when they had eagerly censured Rep. Steve King (R-IA) for racist language.”

“Nancy Pelosi has not said a word,” McCarthy said to Breitbart News on Saturday. McCarthy continued, “So that means she’s supportive of these actions” by Omar.

It was just last month that Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi showed her support for Omar to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, even though there was tons of controversy being stirred up regarding the Minnesota Democrat’s previous antisemitic comments, in addition to her radical foreign policy views which are clearly anti-Israel.

McCarthy explained to Breitbart, “If [Pelosi] does not do something, we will take action on the floor.”

Greenwald sent out a tweet in response which he claimed that it was “stunning” that McCarthy and fellow Republicans were standing up for Israel:

Omar responded with a tweet. “It’s all about the Benjamins baby,” she wrote, indicating that politicians supporting Israel had been paid to do so.

Opinion editor at the liberally-focused Forward, Batya Ungar-Sargon, send out a tweet in response saying that Omar’s comment was antisemitic.

“That’s the second anti-Semitic trope you’ve tweeted,” she wrote. The first anti-semitic comment came in a 2012 tweet, in which Omar alleged that “Israel has hypnotized the world.”

The Democrat has acknowledged that her first tweet could be found offensive, however she never apologized for sending it out… and she never even deleted it.

Omar’s response was simple, “AIPAC!” She was referring to the “American-Israel Public Affairs Committee, an influential pro-Israel lobby group that is closely associated with the American Jewish community,” according to Breitbart.

The thing is that AIPAC isn’t a political action committee (PAC), and they don’t donate to any candidate or even endorse any candidates. Omar’s claim that AIPAC pays members of Congress as a bribe is a view shared by both some Republicans and Democrats.

Ungar-Sargon wrote in response:

Liberal journalists weren’t happy with Omar’s tweet:

Breitbart repots that “Politico contributing editor Joshua M. Seitz agreed with National Journal political reporter Josh Kraushaar that Omar’s statement was part of a ‘pattern’ of antisemitic rhetoric.”

Chelsea Clinton wasn’t happy with Omar’s comment, either. She wrote in response, “We should expect all elected officials, regardless of party, and all public figures to not traffic in anti-Semitism.”

Chelsea Clinton wasn’t the only one unhappy with Omar’s comment:

Ilhan Omar later sent out a retweet of a supporter who insisted that the Democratic Representative was “accurately describing” the “Israel lobby”:

Breitbart explains, “Not only was Omar’s description of how AIPAC works inaccurate, but the term ‘Israel lobby’ is itself a loaded one, often used in conspiracy theories alleging undue Jewish influence over the U.S. government.”
