Opinion | Ilhan Omar under investigation for using campaign funds while she was a state lawmaker to pay for her divorce.
The investigation was recently completed according to investigative reporter James Rosen, and authorities are preparing to issue their ruling.
Republican state lawmaker Steve Drazkowski filed two complaints against the freshman Congresswoman last year.
Investigative reporters approached Omar last week as she was leaving the Capitol and she dodged all questions regarding her campaign finance violations.
Omar’s aid responded to reporters by telling them to schedule an interview with her. As expected, email inquiries were never returned and they were given the runaround without ever getting an interview.
Republican State Rep. Drazkowski boldly pointed out how Ilhan Omar uses her gender, religion and ethnicity to shield herself from critics.
“There’s a political fear that people have of being called a name, being called a bigot, being called racist, being called Islamophobic,” Drazkowski said.
Sinclair investigative reporters exclusively received information that the campaign finance board is wrapping up their investigation into Ilhan Omar and are preparing to give a ruling on two complaints.
The first complaint was that Omar used campaign finances to divorce her brother. The second is related to travel expenses. The board is expected to give their ruling in the next 4 to 6 weeks.
